FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is a Naturopathic Physician?

Naturopathic Physicians are specialists in the State of Connecticut. They are experts in natural medicine, using various modalities (nutrition, botanical medicine, homeopathy, acupuncture, physician-grade supplements, laboratory testing) to facilitate healing. The goal is to address the root cause of illness, not each symptom. Naturopathic Physicians receive four years of medical training with two years of clinical training.

Do you accept insurance?

Naturopathic Physicians accept insurance in the state of Connecticut. Please contact your insurance company to see if our services are covered under your plan. We are currently accepting Anthem BCBS, Harvard Pilgrim, Aetna, ConnectiCare and Cigna. These are all subject to change.

Is it necessary to take supplements to be treated?

The simple answer is no. The goal for every patient is optimal health without any supplemental therapy. But, it can take time to get there. We use physician-grade supplements to encourage your physiology in the correct direction. Nutritional therapy and exercise therapy are always the most important aspect of anyone’s health, but supplements are just that, they supplement the system until it can take over the healing process on its own.

Do you prescribe medication?

No, Naturopathic Physicians do not prescribe medications or controlled substances in the State of Connecticut, but are licensed to do so in other states and are well trained in the management of common medications. The physicians at Vitality Integrative Medicine are trained in pharmaceuticals and proficient in interactions between medications and anything that would be prescribed (nutrients, herbs, etc.). We are passionate about working in conjunction with your conventional medical doctors to get you to better health with or without the medications you are currently taking.

How long does it take to see results?

The answer varies widely. In general: the more chronic the illness, the longer the healing process takes. At Vitality Integrative Medicine, we strive for life-long changes that stick. Rest assured, we understand that the healing process is a personal one, so once you develop a relationship with a doctor, we won't shuffle you around between practitioners. We have the long game in mind and will be here to support you no matter how long it takes to get you to optimal health.
